Prints for display

Beginning in the 1960s, Alan used to do his own darkroom printing, first with black-and-white, and then with Ilford’s Cibachrome colour process before that amazing technology became no longer available. He still does his own printing (now using the giclée, ink-jet process) when home in Montana, but, when producing pictures for display and for sale, he prefers a traditional silver-based printing process.

High quality ready-to-frame fine art prints of most of the pictures on this site are available upon request. These for-sale prints are produced by the superb Print Space labs in London using a Type-C (‘Lamba’) process. Type-C means true darkroom-style, silver-based photographic printing that produces continuous tone images with more subtle tonal gradations than obtainable with giclée printing. Alan has carefully selected which printing paper works best for each image. For most he has chosen Fuji Glossy paper although, for some, the best result uses Fuji Matt paper.

For his original artwork that was originally intended for reproduction using Cibachrome, Alan has chosen Fuji Flex (which uses a polymer base rather than pure paper). Fuji Flex comes closest to the extremely high gloss, saturated and ‘deep-pool’ (think ‘stained glass’) look of Cibachrome.

Besides producing top quality prints at competitive prices, the Print Space ships our prints to anywhere in the world at one flat-rate amazingly-low price. Given that, there is no need to locate different printing services in different countries.

On the subject of sizing, most images that are for sale are available in two sizes: the larger being the largest that can be made while maintaining top-notch image quality, and the smaller being a more modestly priced print or one perhaps better suited to hanging in a small space or in combination with others. Since no middlemen or galleries are involved, all prices are quite low. Please inquire further using our e-mail facility.
